How it works
Pick a marker
Six colours and three widths. The colours are chosen for a board that can be light or dark, so they stay readable in every theme.
Write on the board
With a mouse, with your finger on the classroom board, or with a pen on a tablet. A stylus is followed by pressure, so a stroke thickens as you press harder.
Rub out what went wrong
The eraser takes away a piece, undo takes back the whole last stroke. Clearing starts you over, and that can be undone as well.
Put lines or squares under it
The background sits in the top corner: blank, lines, squares or dots. Useful for writing in a straight line together, or setting out a sum one step under the other.
Why an empty board is enough
A classroom board can do everything, which is exactly why it so often takes too long to simply write something down. A word a child does not know, a sum you work through once, an arrow between two things that belong together: that has to be one click away.
So this tool does no more than a board does. There is no file, no layer and no menu to lose something in. What is on the board stays there until you wipe it.
That also makes it safe to hand over. A pupil who comes up to explain something can write straight away without being able to break anything.
In a lesson
In maths you set out a sum on the squares and leave the steps standing while the class works along with you.
In language you write a word and mark the syllables in a second colour. The colour then does the work an explanation would otherwise cost.
During a class discussion you draw what is being said: two words, an arrow between them. A class remembers the drawing better than the sentence.
And as a filler you hand the board to the class: one child draws, the rest guess.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
No. The board opens straight away and works without signing in.
Is my drawing saved?
No. The board is empty every time you open it, like a real board wiped after the lesson. Your settings are remembered: the colour, the width and the background are still right next lesson.
Does it work on a touchscreen or interactive board?
Yes, that is what it was made for. Writing with your finger or with the board pen works the same as with a mouse, and one button puts the board full screen.
Can I get back something I wiped by accident?
Yes. Undo brings back the last stroke, and clearing the whole board can be undone too. Ctrl+Z does it from the keyboard, Cmd+Z on a Mac.
Does the board cost anything?
No. The whiteboard is free and stays free. There are no adverts on it and nothing is asked of you.
